A reminder that there is the Labour Day Public Holiday on Monday 2 March.  OSHClub WA will be closed on Monday.

Our Year 3–6 Blue and Gold students enjoyed an engaging and hands-on day at Perth Zoo as part of our Zoo Design Project-Based Learning program. Working in multi-aged groupings, students explored animal habitats, observed a range of fascinating species—including pythons and lions—and investigated how enclosure design, diet, and environmental factors support animal health and wellbeing.

Years 3–4 participated in the Staying Healthy program, learning how keepers and vets care for animals and how habitat design contributes to their wellbeing. Years 5–6 studied a specific enclosure in detail, evaluating how well it met the animal’s needs before redesigning it and creating a fact sheet and LEGO model of an improved habitat.

Students recorded their observations and ideas to use in their semester-long PBL sessions on Tuesday (Gold) and Thursday (Blue) afternoons, where they will continue collaborating in their multi-aged teams to design their own zoo habitats.

A big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers for giving their time and support to make the day such a success.

The next MJR Award will be presented at the Year 4 Gold Assembly on Friday 27 March.

The P&F will be hosting a Welcome Back Family Night at school on Friday 6^th March with gates opening at 5pm.  Events held during the evening will be FREE to the school community.  There will be food trucks available to purchase dinner and many different free activities for families to be involved in (inc., live entertainment, giant outdoor games, freedom fairies, glitter tattoos or face/hair glitter, colouring in competition, Forrestdale Football Club fun zone).  A magic show with ‘Pop Magic’ starts at 7pm.  Families can BYO their own dinner if they wish, and something comfortable to sit on (e.g., blankets, beanbags, low lying chairs etc.).

From Monday 9 March until Friday 13 March, the Year 6 classes will complete their swimming lessons at Coogee Beach.  Students will depart school at 10.20am and return to school at 1.45pm.

A reminder to families that all important notes and permission forms distributed at the recent Parent Information Meeting (medical, use of images/ICT use/excursion permission & family details) should have been returned to school by now.  Could families with outstanding documents please complete, sign, and return them to your child’s class teacher, or to the front office asap.

From Wednesday 11 until 23 March, students in Years 3 & 5 will participate in NAPLAN Online (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) testing.  This is an annual assessment that evaluates student skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and numeracy.

The school understands that due to unexpected circumstances, there will be times when student pick up and or drop off arrangements change.  If possible, please inform the school asap if a message needs to be sent to a child regarding a change in circumstances.  If the school receives consistent messages of late pick up or drop off, an alternative arrangement such as OSHClub needs to be sought by parents.  Please do not drop your child off on Forrest Road or in the middle of the carpark.  Not only is it unsafe and dangerous, but it also causes unnecessary congestion on the Forrest Road and in the carpark.

A reminder that the next P&F Meeting will be held on Tuesday 10 March at 6.00pm in the staffroom.  We look forward to seeing you there.
